The Availability of Entertainment Such as Video Games - Sample Answer 1
In today’s world, video games have become a ubiquitous part of our lives. Some people view them as a benign source of entertainment and recreation, while others consider them to be baneful for not only an individual’s life but also for society at large. In my opinion, I agree that such games on portable devices have an inimical effect on the lives of people and the larger society and in the forthcoming paragraphs, I will provide the supporting and contradicting reasons behind my opinion.
Firstly, playing video games on handheld devices has several unfavourable effects on people. Research has found that immoderate playing of video games interferes with one’s sleep pattern and causes attention to dwindle and moods to worsen. Secondly, excessive playing of video games can cause people to be engulfed by virtual reality, which stymies their social relationships. Consequently, conflicts can erupt among family and friends due to the problematic overuse of such amusement.
Playing games on portable devices also keeps people distracted to such an extent that the possibility of them suffering accidents becomes ostensible. For example, the popular game ‘PokemonGo’ was prohibited because its open-world presence led to people suffering accidents and, in some tragic circumstances, dying. In the US, for instance, the game was held responsible for causing 256 deaths and 150, 000 traffic accidents. There are other physical costs of playing video games, such as the tendency of players to develop hand and wrist injuries due to overuse and inflammation and suffer from poor eyesight due to heightened screen time.
However, playing virtual games on handy devices is not without its commending qualities. People state that it is a delightful recreational activity, providing players with a sense of mirth and gratification. Some research has also suggested that playing video games in a restrained manner can have some benefits, such as boosting the focus of players. They have also found applicability in medical and psychological research.
Thus, in conclusion, I would like to say that while video games do have certain positive features to commend them, they have had a largely deleterious impact upon individuals and the rest of society and their overuse should be monitored as far as possible.

The Availability of Entertainment Such as Video Games - Sample Answer 2
In today’s digital age, handheld video games have become a pervasive source of entertainment for people of all ages. While some consider them harmless fun, I strongly agree that their excessive use can have detrimental effects on both individuals and society.
Firstly, overindulgence in video games can negatively affect physical and mental health. Research indicates that spending long hours gaming can disrupt sleep patterns, reduce attention span, and trigger mood swings. Moreover, constant engagement in virtual worlds can isolate individuals from real-life social interactions, leading to weakened family bonds and deteriorating friendships.
Secondly, these games can pose real-world risks. Mobile games that encourage movement or outdoor interaction, such as Pokemon Go, have been linked to accidents because players often become distracted from their surroundings. Reports from the United States suggest hundreds of traffic accidents and even fatalities related to such games. In addition, prolonged screen exposure may cause eye strain, wrist injuries, and other physical health problems.
Although some argue that video games provide relaxation and cognitive benefits, such as enhancing focus and problem-solving skills, these advantages only manifest when gaming is done in moderation. Excessive gameplay outweighs these benefits and results in adverse consequences for individuals and society alike.
In conclusion, handheld video games, when overused, can be highly harmful to both personal well-being and social safety. It is essential to regulate gaming habits, encourage physical activity, and maintain a healthy balance between virtual entertainment and real-life responsibilities.

The Availability of Entertainment Such as Video Games - Sample Answer 3
Handheld video games have become an integral part of modern entertainment, offering enjoyment and engagement to users. While I acknowledge some positive aspects of gaming, I believe that excessive use of these devices can harm both individuals and society.
On one hand, video games can provide relaxation, improve concentration, and even aid in educational or medical applications. For example, certain puzzle or strategy games enhance cognitive skills, while fitness-based games encourage physical movement. In moderation, these activities can be a valuable source of recreation and skill development.
On the other hand, excessive gaming can have serious negative effects. Spending long hours on handheld devices can interfere with sleep, reduce attention span, and negatively affect moods. Social relationships may suffer as players spend less time interacting with family and friends. Additionally, outdoor games played on mobile devices have caused accidents, some fatal, highlighting the real-world risks associated with distracted gaming. Prolonged screen time can also lead to poor eyesight and repetitive strain injuries.
In conclusion, while handheld video games can offer some benefits, their overuse has deleterious effects on personal health and society. Responsible gaming, with limits on time and attention, is necessary to ensure that entertainment remains beneficial rather than harmful.
